Resolution – The Digital Print Group Exhibition July 3rd, 2016
Despite its short history, the digital print is among the most ubiquitous tools for information dispersal and cross-media translation today. In an increasingly digitized world of smartphones, virtual and augmented reality, and omnipresent screens, the digital print serves a pivotal role in bridging the dematerialized world and physical space. A digital print is the virtual IRL.
‘Resolution: the Digital Print’ is an attempt to address a media that can either maintain the preciousness of the art object or open up a horizon towards a more democratized and accessible art market. A variety of artists will present a single exhibited piece in their medium of choice alongside several translations of the piece as signed digital prints, which will be available for purchase the opening night and through the Jai & Jai Gallery website. Alongside the formal experimentations of each artist, the exhibit seeks to probe new potentials for the sale and presentation of art objects. Each artist will determine the pricing of their exhibited piece as well as their limited edition digital prints.
The exhibited artists represent a variety of ways of working today, including collage, painting, computational, film, virtual reality, screen-printing, photography, and lithography. The common object, the digital print, will showcase the myriad possibilities of translation offered by the media. The exhibition hopes to engage questions surrounding issues such as low resolution and high resolution, the copy and the original, the copy and the copy, the print of the copy and the print of the copy of the copy: in other words, a mise-en-abyme of potential translations.
Please join us for an evening of affordable art and transmedia experimentation.
‘Resolution: the Digital Print’ opens July 9, 2016 from 8-11pm.
